Dhaka Metro Line 5

Dhaka, the rapidly developing capital city of Bangladesh, is undergoing a significant transformation with the introduction of a series of metro lines.

Line 5 North consists of nine underground stations crossing the centre of the city in an east-west direction, connecting some of the most important places in the history and future of the city, including the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the CBD at Gulshan and sites such as Gabtoli.

The Project

The interdisciplinary team of professionals from the studios in Manchester, New Delhi and Dhaka, is combining its global experience in transport with local and regional knowledge to define the cultural and climatic fit with a city as vast and complex as Dhaka.

The project was led by BDP’s transport architectural team and supported by lighting, engineering and project management.

The Role

Giorgos was responsible for the research of local standards that were applicable to any projects in the region. He created a design criteria matrix that was using the local standards and best practice guidance from the UK as supplementary design criteria. The aim was to comply with mandatory local standards and uplift the designs using knowledge and expertise from the industry in the UK.

During the detailed design stage, Giorgos was leading the team to create full set of drawings, specifications and schematics that were given to the electrical subconsultants in India in order to develop full tender design packages.
